Mishka is a full blooded, female Siberian Husky born in January of 2011.
In January of 2012, Mishka's vet took an X-ray of her hips to determine why she wasn't developing any muscle mass and had no control of her back legs. Upon review of the X-ray he found that Mishka was born with no hips. Her leg bones were resting above the hip sockets and would eventually develop severe arthritis.
We had two options. The first option was to remove part of leg bone so it would rest inside of the socket. This would only give Mishka partial use of her legs and she would still, eventually, develop severe arthritis in both legs.
The second option was to perform a total hip replacement, giving Mishka 100% use of her legs and eliminating the possibility of the development of premature arthritis. This option would allow Mishka to live a normal, healthy, happy, and very long life.
We chose option 2. You can follow Mishka's progress by checking back here weekly.
Mishk's first surgery is scheduled for April 12, 2012 at Ohio State University Veterinarian Hospital.
